Anarchy Online: Lost Eden Preview

The fourth expansion to Anarchy Online enhances the player-versus-player gameplay, and adds anything from mech vehicles to alien mothership exploration. We provide a look into the upcoming expansion for this sci-fi MMO game.

When Anarchy Online first launched five years ago, it was the first massively multiplayer online game with a true science fiction setting. It jumped head on into a young, but growing genre, and settled there so well that it's still going with tremendous success today. And there is a reason for that – Funcom has worked vigorously to expand the game constantly, fixing issues addressed by the community and expanding both the content and gameplay mechanics. This is what Lost Eden, the latest expansion to Anarchy Online, has set out to do as well by introducing new features such as enhanced player-versus-player combat, mech vehicles, alien motherships and the battlestations.

Anarchy Online

Anarchy Online is a so-called massively multiplayer online game, which means you play on Funcom's servers and join a massive world populated with thousands of other players from all over the world. It is set on Rubi-ka, a fictional planet, about thirty thousands years into the future. On this gigantic planet that players adventure on, there is a conflict going on between two opposing factions: Omni-tek and the freedom fighting Clans. Players can choose between joining either the corporate, high-tech and powerful Omni-tek, or the underground, freedom fighting Clans.

Lost Eden is the fourth expansion to Anarchy Online, the previous being Notum Wars, Shadowlands and Alien Invasion. In Lost Eden, the focus has been put on player-versus-player combat, where the gameplay functionalities of Notum Wars is enhanced and the addition of mechs and battlestations spice up this part of the game considerably. Most noticeable are perhaps the battlestations, giant space stations in orbit around Rubi-ka that players will teleport up to and where they will engage in dramatic battles with each other. A maximum of 150 players can be on one battlestation at a time, which makes it possible for 75 Omni-tek and 75 Clanners to clash in one gigantic battle for victory.

On these battlestations, players will have to fight for the control of certain capture points and retain control of them. Capturing a control point involves hacking into a console, which takes a short time to complete. You can expect a lot of wild combat around those control points, as players fight to keep the others away! When one side wins the battle, they will get away with victory points which can then be used to buy certain types of equipment not available for ordinary credits (the currency on Rubi-ka).
